Sign My Name to Freedom: A Documentary in Progress
Join us Saturday, April 13th at 2pm at the Richmond Museum of History & Culture for a captivating event that will shed new light on local-icon Betty Reid Soskin.
This FREE event will showcase an exciting 24-minute sneak peek screening of the forthcoming documentary Sign My Name to Freedom, a feature-length film about 102-year-old Betty Reid Soskin, her lost music, and her family's experiences confronting Jim Crow style workplace and residential housing segregation in the Bay Area.
In addition to previewing a sample of the film, come for a Q&A with Bryan Gibel and other members of the team. You can also help ensure the project reaches completion through this crowdfund campaign.

Join Producer Sara Lafleur-Vetter in the "Barn" room at South of North Brewing Co. for a FREE exclusive sneak peek of “Sign My Name to Freedom,” a feature documentary about iconic National Park Ranger Betty Reid Soskin, her hidden life as a singer-songwriter, and her family’s experiences confronting Jim Crow-style segregation on the West Coast. Following the 24-minute preview of the documentary, join Lafleur for a conversation via Zoom with Director and Producer Bryan Gibel about the making of the film, as well as Betty's Daughter Di'ara Reid & Granddaughter Alyana Reid who can tell us the behind-the-scenes story of growing up with Betty Reid Soskin as a parent.

Mills is a National Geographic Explorer and a contributor to National Geographic Magazine, a Fellow of the Mountain & Wilderness Writing Program of the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada and a recipient of the Paul K. Petzoldt Award For Environmental Education. As a freelance journalist and an independent media producer in a career that spans more than 20 years he specializes in sharing stories about outdoor recreation, environmental conservation, acts of charitable giving and practices of sustainable living. He has worked in the outdoor industry since 1989 as a guide, outfitter, independent sales representative, writer, and photographer. He is the author of the new book “The Adventure Gap: Changing the Face of the Outdoors” and the co-writer/co-producer of the documentary film “An American Ascent”
